“Dressed bodies”: the female silhouette (re)signified of Coco Chanel

This article aims to reflect on the Coco Chanel (1883-1971) “dressed body”, considered one of the major fashion creators of all time, becoming a decisive figure in given new meanings for fashion and for the female silhouette. This work is justified by the trust in the importance that the clothes impose on the body as an element that promotes meaning in relation to places and gender images. The analysis allowed us to understand Chanel’s body as belonging to an ambiguous space, built from meanings that unite the designer image to a corporeity engendered on the border between masculine and feminine.
