Resumo: Brazil is the fourth country in terms of number of occupational accidents, therefore, establishing procedures that allow greater safety of employees is essential for companies, including those in the civil construction sector, the main responsible for these high rates. The World Class Manufacturing - WCM is a methodology that seeks operational excellence in organizations, which is based on managerial and technical pillars, including safety. Thus, the present study aims to analyze the contributions of the implementation of step 1 of the safety pillar of the WCM methodology in the material distribution subsector of a popular housing construction company. This is an applied, quali-quantitative, exploratory, descriptive and documentary research, which took the form of a case study. The implementation of step 1 of the safety pillar made it possible, in the period between 2018 and 2020, to reduce the number of accidents that occurred in the company from 18 to 03.

O World Class Manufacturing - WCM é uma metodologia que busca a excelência operacional nas organizações, que se baseia em pilares gerenciais e técnicos, dentre os quais o de segurança. Assim, o presente estudo tem como objetivo analisar as contribuições da implementação do passo 1 do pilar de segurança da metodologia WCM no subsetor de distribuição de materiais de uma construtora de habitação popular. Trata-se de uma pesquisa aplicada, quali-quanti, exploratória, descritiva e documental, que assumiu o formato de estudo de caso.
