Business sustainability analysis: an application of data envelopment analysis

Resumo: This research presents an analysis on the sustainability efficiency of eight companies, named by A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H, from several segments, using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) methodology considering the parameters: Revenue, Number of Employees, Dimensions – General, Economic, Social and Environmental, elucidated by Exame Magazine – Exame Sustainbability Guide for the periods 2012 to 2014. The DEA methodology makes use of mathematical programming and a non-parametric efficiency frontier. The objective is to verify if the efficiency of the selected companies is maintained throughout the years 2012, 2013 and 2014, according to the considered parameters. For the DEA application the number of employees was defined as the input and the general, economic, social, environmental and revenue as the outputs. The results showed that only the C company, from the services sector and E, from the real state building material segment, preserved their efficiencies over those periods, among the companies evaluated in this study.

A metodologia DEA faz uso de programação matemática e de uma fronteira não-paramétrica de eficiência. O objetivo é verificar se a eficiência das empresas selecionadas se mantém ao longo dos anos 2012, 2013 e 2014, segundo os parâmetros considerados. Para a aplicação da DEA foram definidos o input como número de funcionários e os outputs dimensões geral, econômica, social, ambiental e faturamento.
