Six sigma and lean production adoption in a manufacturing company

Resumo: | The connection among Lean Production with Six Sigma originated the Lean Six Sigma methodology, focused on processes variation and waste reduction. This methodology was developed on different ways in the companies and there is no consensus over its structure and its implementation. In this context, this paper aims to identify and analyze the main characteristics on the adoption and integration of Lean Six Sigma methodology through a case study conducted in a manufacturing company that adopts lean production and six sigma. The results show two important aspects of the Lean Six Sigma methodology. One of them is the adoption of the value stream mapping as a central tool on Lean Six Sigma. The other is the use of DMAIC for improvements actions. The study indicates that despite the difficulties on Lean Six Sigma implementation, the methodology offers benefits to the company that adopts it in the suitable way. |

Esta metodologia se desenvolveu de diferentes formas nas empresas e não existe um consenso em relação a sua estrutura organizacional e implementação. Com propósito de identificar e analisar as características relevantes na adoção e integração da metodologia Lean Seis Sigma, o presente trabalho tem como objetivos demonstrar a adoção do Lean Production e Seis Sigma. O estudo de caso foi realizado em uma empresa de manufatura que adota ambas as práticas. Os resultados obtidos evidenciam dois aspectos importantes da metodologia Lean Seis Sigma: a adoção do mapeamento do fluxo de valor como ferramenta central e o uso do DMAIC nas ações de melhoria.
