Resumo: The social inclusion of people with mental illnesses in services that act as substitutes for the internment in psychiatric hospital is a subject admittedly controversial. The nature of its functioning demands a knowledge that involves how much from is achieved from its aimed goals. An exhaustive review of the literature was performed, highlighting the main views on the theme of inclusion social in the context of a proposed reform psychiatric care. The results of these studies show that despite the recognition of the importance of substitute services in the process of social inclusion of the mentally ill, the scope of such an objective still challenged by several barriers.

Foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica não exaustiva com destaque para as principais posições teóricas sobre o tema da inclusão social no contexto da reforma do modelo de assistência psiquiátrica.
