Resumo: Objective: To analyze the prevalence of anxiety and depression symptoms in nursing professionals when caring for patients with COVID-19. Method: systematic review, according to PRISMA recommendations, with delimitation based on the stratification of PICO components. Search carried out in the Pubmed, LILACS, Scielo and BVS and WHO-COVID-19 databases, with original cross-sectional studies, during the period from January 2020 to January 2022. The selected studies had their methodological quality assessed using Joanna Briggs Institute Checklist for Analytical Cross Sectional Studies. The findings were verified through simple frequency distributions of the analyzed variables. Results: 1,500 studies were identified through the search strategies, of which 22 were included using the eligibility criteria. The COVID-19 pandemic had a huge impact on the mental health of nursing professionals, especially women, aged 30 or over, married, nurses, working hours greater than 30 hours per week, with less than 10 years of effective experience professional and with public ties. Conclusion: This systematic review found high levels of anxious and depressive symptoms in the nursing team during the COVID-19 pandemic. This data points to the need to create mental health care strategies for this population.
