Between antipetism and the third way: the PSDB in the 2018 elections

Resumo: | Brazil has as one of the explanatory variables of the vote the Horário Gratuito de Propaganda Eleitoral (HGPE). In 2018 the TV campaign had a short duration and coexisted with other communication spaces. In this context, the goal of the article is to verify the discursive strategy mobilized by Geraldo Alckmin to be put as a viable alternative to the candidacies of PSL and PT, who led the presidential race in the first round. The empirical corpus are the programs of the HGPE and spots of the candidate for the Presidency of the Republic by the PSDB. The method used is the discourse analysis. We argue that in an environment with polarization the image of a moderate opposition was rejected. There were two senses mobilized in the construction of the Alckmin ethos: the best option to “nopetism” to the "third way" between Haddad and Bolsonaro. Later, it surrenders to the "emotional antipetism" and affirms that only the PSDB would win the PT in the second round. |

Nesse contexto, o objetivo do artigo é verificar as estratégias discursivas mobilizadas por Geraldo Alckmin para se colocar como alternativa viável às candidaturas de PSL e PT, que lideraram a corrida presidencial no primeiro turno. O corpus empírico são os programas do HGPE e os spots do candidato à Presidência da República pelo PSDB. O método utilizado é a Análise do Discurso. Argumentamos que, em um ambiente com grande polarização, a imagem de uma oposição moderada foi rejeitada. Foram dois os sentidos mobilizados na construção do ethos de Alckmin: de melhor opção ao antipetismo à “terceira via” entre as candidaturas de Haddad e Bolsonaro.
