MOTIVATION AND RESISTANCE TO THE USE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: A STUDY AMONG TEACHERS

Resumo: | The aim of this paper is to analyze the motivating aspects and resistance to using information technology by the teachers at a community higher education institution (hei) in the northern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. The relevance of this work stems from the need to expand our knowledge of the subject since it is studied in different contexts, but little has been done in the context of educational institutions. This study is characterized by its quantitative approach, descriptive objective and its assessment of the procedures. The data was collected through a questionnaire composed of 15 statements based on the study by Dias (2000,) in which four dimensions were addressed: usefulness, ease of use, pleasure and resistance. The authors processed the results using descriptive analysis and correlation between variables. Of the teachers surveyed, the majority were male, aged between 42 to 46 years and with a Masters’ degree. The variable with the highest average value was for usefulness (6.20). The correlation coefficients between the model’s four variables were found to be significant. The importance of encouraging research in this area was identified as a possible future line of research when taking into account the need to relate the variables studied here with performance, which is a variable that has yet to be explored in universities. |

A relevância deste trabalho deve-se à necessidade da ampliação dos conhecimentos sobre o tema, uma vez que o mesmo é pesquisado em diferentes contextos, mas pouco no contexto de instituições de ensino. A pesquisa caracteriza-se quanto aos objetivos como descritiva, como levantamento quanto aos procedimentos, e, no que tange à abordagem, como quantitativa. Os dados foram coletados por meio de questionário composto por 15 afirmativas, realizadas com base no estudo de Dias (2000), o qual contemplou quatro dimensões: a utilidade, a facilidade de uso, o prazer e a resistência. Procedeu-se à análise descritiva e de correlação entre as variáveis. Em relação ao perfil dos professores pesquisados, verificou-se que a maioria deles é do gênero masculino, com a faixa etária entre 42 e 46 anos. O mestrado configurou-se a titulação predominante entre os professores pesquisados. A variável utilidade foi a variável com maior valor médio (6,20). Os coeficientes de correlação entre as quatro variáveis do modelo apresentaram-se significantes.
