Resumo: This article seeks to reflect on the importance of design research aimed at sustainability and social innovation, with the aim of emphasizing the study of materials, specifically the reuse of waste, based on researches developed in the Graduate Program in Design (PPGDg) from the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA) in the Materials, Processes and Technology Line. The methodology is a combination of the literature review and the case study that will explain 3 dissertations developed at PPGDg (UFMA), aiming at a greater theoretical basis on the reuse of waste in the civil construction sector. In the final considerations, there was the elaboration of a list that contains the authors and titles of the researches developed at the PPGDg (UFMA) over the last few years with a focus on materials, aiming to help new researchers and/or enthusiasts of the subject.

La metodología utilizada desencadena la revisión de la literatura y el estudio de caso que explicará 3 tesis desarrolladas en el PPGDg (UFMA), con el objetivo de una mayor base teórica sobre la reutilización de residuos en el sector de la construcción civil. En las consideraciones finales, se realizó la elaboración de una tabla que contiene los autores y títulos de las investigaciones desarrolladas en el PPGDg (UFMA) durante los últimos años con un enfoque en los materiales, con el objetivo de ayudar a los nuevos investigadores y / o entusiastas del sujeto.Este artigo busca refletir sobre a importância das pesquisas em design voltadas para sustentabilidade e inovação social, tendo como objetivo a ênfase no estudo de materiais, especificamente no reaproveitamento de resíduos, a partir de pesquisas realizadas no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Design (PPGDg) da Universidade Federal do Maranhão (UFMA) na Linha de Materiais, Processos e Tecnologia. A metodologia utilizada aciona a revisão de literatura e o estudo de caso que explanará 3 dissertações desenvolvidas no PPGDg (UFMA), visando um maior embasamento teórico sobre o reapro- veitamento de resíduos no setor da construção civil.
