Resumo: | This article examines one of the most iconic works by contemporary Chinese artist Ai Weiwei: Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn (1993). A brief punctuation is made about the aesthetic and symbolic characteristics referring to Chinese tradition and identity reflected in the ceramics. It addresses the concepts of material culture and cultural memory to open a case study of the artist’s work from the perspective of Kopytoff. This article analyzes the performative action of the artist in the photographic triptych, relating the historical cultural contexts to the concept of the work. |

Se hace una breve puntuación sobre las características estéticas y simbólicas referentes a la tradición e identidad china reflejada en la cerámica. Aborda los conceptos de cultura material y memoria cultural para el estudio de caso de la obra del artista desde la perspectiva de Kopytoff. Con ello, analiza la acción performativa del artista en el tríptico fotográfico, relacionando los contextos históricos culturales con el discurso de la obra.Este artigo examina uma das obras mais icônicas do artista contemporâneo chinês Ai Weiwei: Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn (1995). Faz-se uma breve pontuação acerca das características estéticas e simbólicas referentes a tradição e identidade chinesa refletidas nas cerâmicas.
