Postgraduate studies in Design in Paraíba – the case of the PPGDesign/UFCG

Resumo: This paper presents a brief history of the origin of the Postgraduate Program in Design at the Federal University of Campina Grande, initially describing its roots in the Industrial Design major, created in 1978. Subsequently, it describes how the area of concentration and the two research branches that are currently part of the program are characterized. The text highlights the different approaches to the investigation of themes that reflect the potential of the program’s research for social impact and its importance to the region and the country. Finally, possible developments for the continuation and review of the scope of the program are outlined in order to meet the recent needs of the field.

Finally, possible developments for the continuation and review of the scope of the program are outlined in order to meet the recent needs of the field.Este artículo presenta un breve historial acerca del origen del Programa de Posgrado en Design de la Universidad Federal de Campina Grande, describiendo inicialmente sus raíces en el Curso de Diseño Industrial, fundado en 1978. Posteriormente, describe cómo se caracterizan el área de concentración y las dos líneas de investigación que actualmente integran el programa. El texto destaca los diversos enfoques para la investigación de temas que reflejan la importancia del programa y el potencial de impacto social de las investigaciones para la región y el país. El artículo concluye con un trazado de los posibles desdoblamientos para la continuación y la revisión del objetivo del programa, en aras de atender a las nuevas demandas del área.Este artigo apresenta um breve histórico sobre a origem do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Design da Universidade Federal de Campina Grande descrevendo inicialmente suas raízes no Curso de Desenho Industrial criado em 1978. Posteriormente descreve como se caracterizam a área de concentração e as duas linhas de pesquisas que atualmente integram o programa. O texto destaca as diversas abordagens para a investigação de temas que espelham a importância do programa e o potencial de impacto social das pesquisas para a região e o país.
