Algorithmic Landscapes: Algorithms and walking as ways of dwelling and constructing the landscape

Resumo: This paper presents a discussion on landscape and its algorithmic dimension through the Algorithmic Landscapes art project. More than a backdrop where the action happens, the landscape, itself, is discussed as something in the order of action, contemplating spatio-temporal dimensions that encapsulate a series of physical, cultural, technological and aesthetic elements. We understand that with an increasing algorithmic logic permeating the world, we have to take into account these elements as agents and constituents of the landscape. In the first part of the text, we address these conceptual aspects. The second part of the text describes the development of the Algorithmic Landscapes experimental project. The project is a set of iterative actions in cities of Brazil and France. These actions include an algorithmic performance, the development and analysis of images by Artificial Intelligence software, and a series of poetic operations on these images that are finally displayed as a video mapping piece on the façade of a building.

Más que un telón de fondo donde sucede la acción, el propio paisaje se discute como algo en el orden de la acción, contemplando dimensiones espacio-temporales que encierran una serie de elementos físicos, culturales, tecnológicos y estéticos. Con una lógica algorítmica creciente, hay que tener en cuenta estos elementos como agentes y constituyentes del paisaje. En la primera parte del texto, abordamos estos aspectos conceptuales. La segunda parte del texto describe la metodología y la creación del proyecto experimental Algorithmic Landscapes. El proyecto es un conjunto de acciones iterativas en ciudades de Brasil y Francia. Estas acciones incluyen una performance algorítmica, el desarrollo y análisis de imágenes mediante un software de Inteligencia Artificial, y una serie de operaciones poéticas sobre estas imágenes que finalmente se muestran como una proyección sobre la fachada de un edificio.Este artigo apresenta uma discussão sobre a paisagem e sua dimensão algorítmica através do projeto artístico Paisagens Algorítmicas. Mais do que um pano de fundo onde a ação acontece, a própria paisagem é discutida como algo na ordem da ação, contemplando dimensões espaço-temporais que encapsulam uma série de elementos físicos, culturais, tecnológicos e estéticos. Com uma lógica algorítmica crescente, temos de levar em consideração esses elementos como agentes e constituintes da paisagem. Na primeira parte do texto, abordamos esses aspectos conceituais. A segunda parte do texto descreve a metodologia e a criação do projeto experimental Paisagens Algorítmicas. O projeto é um conjunto de ações iterativas em cidades do Brasil e da França.
