Hospitalidade e morte: análise da produção científica sobre dissertações e teses (1988-2012)

Modernity has estranged men, promoting the individual and collective denial when it comes to death. Such fact has alreadybeen approached in social and human sciences, ever since the pioneer study by Ariès on the history of death in the west. Hospitality, on the other hand, in the words of Derrida, is a principle that rules all ways of interaction and interchange between human beings, in different times and spaces of the everyday. The touch points of these concepts allow us to expand the current repertory of studies in both fields, by searching those that make a reflection on the multiple symbolic exchange systems between the individuals and the environment where they live, between those who are going to die and their family; between this individual and those who assist him in specialized units; and the hardest one: the self-hospitality of the individual towards himself - it is worth saying, the study of multiple ways of copingwith the own terminality. What is the balance of the current scientific knowledge produced under this perspective and how does it allow us to step forward in this discussion? In consequence, the general purpose of this research is to elaborate a state of art, herein understood as a survey and analysis of bibliographical productions that interrelate concepts of hospitality and death. Specifically, the research seeks configuration, constellation of key words of the researched studies, as well as the definition and analysis of thematic categories of researches approaching hospitality. The survey was submitted to the bank of dissertations and theses at capes, and it holds the analysis of 154 studies. It is understood that the choice of dissertations and theses can demonstrate the current barriers of knowledge in this field of study. From this research, it is expected to reinforce the suggestion of including the thematic of death as a new field of knowledge in hospitality.
