Resumo: The present study aims to address the relationship between literature and society in João Cabral de Melo Neto by the memory bias, namely, the role of memory as a filter, as a factor of discussion matter of elements presents in Pernambuco’s society as represented in João Cabral’s poems. More specifically this piece of work analyzes space and collective memory from references to ruined buildings.

De manera más específica, el estudio analiza el espacio y la memoria colectiva desde referencias a edificaciones en ruinas.O presente estudo visa abordar a questão da relação entre literatura e sociedade em João Cabral de Melo Neto pelo viés da memória, isto é, o papel da memória como filtro, como fator de problematização dos elementos da sociedade pernambucana representados nos poemas de João Cabral.
