Resumo: The purpose of this article is to present a critical reading of the footnotes of Marcel Proust's À la Recherche du Temps Perdu, in the first Brazilian translation, which has as a particularity the fact that it has been signed by eminent writers-translators, namely , Mario Quintana, Manuel Bandeira, Carlos Drummond de Andrade and Lucia Miguel Pereira, in order to identify the function exerted by the notes in the translation of each writer-translator, thus contemplating Recherche's discursive unit. In order to do so, the work of Gerard Genette, Paratextos editoriais (2009), as well as works by authors who deal with the Brazilian historical context of the period, such as the editors Bertaso (1993) and Verissimo (1996), will be used as theoretical basis, among others.
