Languages in translation: times, rhythms and voices

Resumo: Between languages in translation, listening to what in these languages is strange and equivocal and resists comprehension by means of its opacity makes translation studies a conceptual territory dominated by metaphor and, arguably, a producer of knowledge that is averse to quantification. This savoir-faire demands the risk of entering into what is woven between languages and relying on what is staged there, which requires grappling with time, marking rhythms and making oneself open to chance, to the unheard, and to improvisation. This paper aims to think about this always carefully regulated approximation between languages by presupposing the listening to voices and silences that are intertwined in these transitions, at once, originals.

Esse savoir-faire reivindica o risco de entrar no que se trama entre línguas e contar com o que nela se encena, e que exige um manejo dos tempos, uma marcação dos ritmos e uma disposição ao acaso, ao inaudito, ao improviso.
