Resumo: This article aims to approach two short stories of the anthology of short stories and chronicles Olhos de azeviche: dez escritoras negras que estão renovando a literatura brasileira (2017) [Jet-Black Eyes: Ten Black Female Writers Who Are Renewing Brazilian Literature] published by Malê publishing house. The short stories are “Das águas” [From the Waters], by Cristiane Sobral, and “A Pretinha e o Pretinho” [The Little Black Girl and The Little Black Boy], by Taís Espírito Santo, which deal with issues such as the construction of identity by Black women. Therefore, we seek to reflect upon the field of Brazilian literature, focusing on the field of Afro-Brazilian or Black Brazilian literature. In this sense, we discuss how Black women’s voices are echoing in the Brazilian literary context, denouncing the predominance of whiteness in this scenario and building new epistemologies. As a theoretical framework, we use the thoughts of Hall (2000), Duarte (2010), Cuti (2010), Dalcastagnè (2012), among others.
