Resumo: | This article presents the first empirical results of the research project initiated in 2008, which examines the production of images by the blind. The project has a twofold objective. One, to question certain canons of visual language to prove that a number of its principles are learned without the assistance of vision, thus showing that they are not exclusively characteristic of visuality; second, the study seeks to propose methodologies for constructing tactile images, which are equally accessible to those with or without visual handicaps. The facts stated here were culled from a qualitative study undertaken with a visually impaired subject who was invited to illustrate imagetic, diagrammatic, and metaphoric images, interpreted within this text with the help of Peircean semiotics. |
