Female Representations in History Teaching: A Reflection about the Religious Action of Roman Women

Resumo: Despite a growing interest for bothWomen’s and Gender’s History amidstBrazilian researchers, the History taughtat schools still follows a quite traditionalapproach regarding women and genderconstruction. By analyzing school textbooksdirected towards students aged 11-12 (Brazil’s 6º ano school level), all approvedby Brazil’s current textbookfederal regulation (PNLD 2020-2023,Portuguese for “National TextbookPlan”), we identified that women’s Historyis presented as disconnected of itsown historical time, thus, negating anypotential deeper reflection regardinggender, power, representations and socialstruggles. In face of this, we proposea reflection about the female action in thepublic sphere of Ancient Rome throughreligion. Our goal is to invite teachers torethink traditional historiography, commonlyseen in textbooks, that Romanwomen spent their lives exclusively confinedto private spaces.

Diante disso, propomosuma reflexão acerca da atuação femininana esfera pública da Roma Antiga,por meio da religião.
