Resumo: The National Solid Waste Policy determines a set of guidelines and actions that aim at the integrated management of solid waste. However, there are residues which still don’t have adequate treatment and/or a correct final destination, as it is the case of sludge produced by the Water Treatment Station (WTS) in Manaus. Thus, this study aimed at using the WTS sludge from the city of Manaus to produce geopolymer cement. Therefore, analyses of the chemical, thermal and diffraction composition were carried out to evaluate the potential of the residue as raw material before and after the beneficiation by mechanical grinding, crushing and calcination. After the treatment, the WTS sludge was mixed with a solution obtained by dissolving active silica in 10 mol.L-1 sodium hydroxide solution. The geopolymer cement obtained from calcined WTS presented low values of specific mass (1.06 g/cm³) and time of setting start (6 minutes), high values for water absorption (44.26%) and compressive strength (19.87 MPa). As a conclusion, the calcined WTS sludge presents technical compatibility in the development of geopolymer and represents an environmentally adequate solution for the destination of this residue.
