Resumo: This article presents an analysis of the writing of the self and the construction of identity in the manuscripts by Maria Leofrisio, the popcorn seller from Araranguá (SC). In terms of methodology, this is a documental, qualitative research centered on the history of life of Maria Leofrisio. The theoretical references used are taken from cultural studies, autobiography studies and focus on: subjectivity as consciousness and care of the self; identity as being fragmented and structured through narrative. By studying Maria Leofrisio’s autobiographic writings we can understand how the popcorn seller has built her identity through the exercise of writing and which textual strategies she has used, that is, how she has edited her narrative in order to make her life meaningful.

El mecanismo construido para analizar los manuscritos se desarrolló a través de los principales conceptos de los estudios culturales y autobiográficos: subjetividad como conciencia y autocuidado; la identidad como una experiencia fragmentada y construida a través de la narrativa. Al adentrarnos en los textos autobiográficos de Maria Leofrisio, podemos entender cómo ella construye su identidad a partir de su escritura y qué estrategias textuales utiliza, es decir, cómo edita su narrativa para significar su vida.Este artigo apresenta a análise da escrita de si e a construção identitária nos manuscritos autobiográficos de Maria Leofrisio, a pipoqueira de Araranguá (SC). Metodologicamente, caracteriza-se como pesquisa documental, qualitativa e de história de vida. O mecanismo construído para análise dos manuscritos foi desenvolvido através dos principais conceitos dos estudos culturais e autobiográficos: a subjetividade como consciência e cuidado de si; a identidade como sendo fragmentada e construída por meio da narrativa.
