Resumo: The Brazilian Army, through the Institute of Research of Physical Capacity in the Army (Instituto de Capacitação Física do Exército – IPCFEx), is currently doing research to update and adequate the rate of its PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST (Teste de Avaliação Física – TAF) aiming at better responses for the needs of the troop for it to be operative. It is also known that the Army of the USA, which more frequently took part in wars and military conflicts during the twentieth century and, nowadays, according to Clark ( 2001), the USA is still the biggest military power in the world. It also has a physical test to rate the physical performance of its members – the APFT. The objective of this research was to check if a group of army men, considered capable in the Brazilian test, would also be considered capable in the American test. Fourteen volunteers took part in the research. They had been in the army for three months, they had not any experience in the tests, they are physically active, male, age varying from 18.6 to ± 0.6 years, body weight around 68.9 ± 7.4 Kg, height around 170 ± 6.7 cm. Firstly all of them had to perform the tasks or the TAF. After one week, the same volunteers, who were capable in the Brazilian test, had to do the APFT tasks.[...]
