Sociodemographic Profile and Relationship Between Distance Teacher Education Students and Tutors

Resumo: With the expansion of Distance Education (DE) in Brazil and the increase in enrollment for this type of education, reflections and questions arise about the sociodemographic profile and characteristics related to the mode of study of distance education students. The aim of this investigation was to identify the sociodemographic profile of students enrolled in an online Education course, as well as their study habits and their relationship with available tutoring. For that, a descriptive field research with a quantitative approach was conducted with 1,434 students from a Teacher Education program offered at a distance by a private university in Northern Paraná. Data collection was done online and submitted to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. Of the participants, 1,364 were female and 70 were male; the average age was 31.2 years old; the majority (55.5%) were married and with family income between R $ 789.00 and R $ 1,576.00. They were located in different regions in the country and 91.2% reported having only up to high school education. Most of them (85.45%) had not taken other courses at a distance. Respondents reported that they prefer to solve their problems with the tutor (58.44%) and that the tutor contributes positively to the accomplishment of course activities (93.24%). The study is intended to help the researched course improve the formulation of the pedagogical projects based on students profiles, as well as favoring the development of public policies for distance learning. Teacher training.Com a ampliação da Educação a Distância (EaD) no Brasil e o aumento no número de matrículas nessa modalidade de ensino, surgem reflexões e questionamentos acerca do perfil sociodemográfico e das características relacionadas ao modo de estudo dos alunos matriculados nela. O objetivo desta investigação foi identificar o perfil sociodemográfico dos alunos matriculados no curso de Pedagogia, bem como seus hábitos de estudo e sua relação com a tutoria. Para tanto, foi realizada uma pesquisa de campo descritiva, com abordagem quantitativa, com 1.434 alunos de um curso de Pedagogia ofertado a distância por uma universidade particular do Norte do Paraná. A coleta foi realizada online e os dados foram submetidos à análise estatística descritiva e inferencial. Dos participantes, 1.364 eram do sexo feminino e 70 do sexo masculino; a média de idade foi de 31,2 anos; a maioria (55,5%) era casada e com renda familiar entre R$ 789,00 e R$ 1.576,00. Estavam divididos por todas as regiões do país e 91,2% declararam possuir apenas o ensino médio. A maioria (85,45%) não havia cursado outros cursos em EaD. Os respondentes informaram que preferem solucionar suas dúvidas com o tutor (58,44%) e que este contribui positivamente para a realização das atividades do curso (93,24%). Pretende-se dessa forma auxiliar a coordenação do curso pesquisado a melhorar a articulação dos projetos pedagógicos com o perfil do aluno, bem como favorecer o desenvolvimento de políticas públicas para a modalidade a distância.
