Virtual Assistants in Learning Management System: a Systematic Review of the Literature

Resumo: Virtual assistants have been playing an increasingly significant role in the learning management system, also known as LMS (Learning Management System). The presence of virtual assistants in these environments brings with it several benefits such as contributing to personalized learning and the ability of this technology to provide immediate responses to students' questions. Furthermore, these assistants are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week offering assistance and resources at any moment in a flexible manner and following the students' learning process. Therefore, this article, based on a systematic literature review seeks to better highlight the possibilities of connection between virtual assistants in LMS in order to analyze the insights and opportunities provided by this combination. It was found that part of the researches tried to present the development and implementation of virtual assistants in teaching and learning platforms, and there were also studies that explored this theme attempting to highlight the presence and the usefulness and the future possibilities of assistants in the LMS’s. Thus, some of the results point to the benefits that virtual assistants bring to the education system by promptly answering students' demands. However, this area still lacks investigations and improvements so that technologies can increasingly provide effective solutions for the environments in which they are embedded.   Keywords: Virtual assistants. Artificial intelligence.Os assistentes virtuais têm desempenhado um papel cada vez mais significativo nos ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem, também conhecidos como AVAs (Ambientes Virtuais de Aprendizagem). A presença de assistentes virtuais nesses ambientes traz consigo alguns benefícios como a contribuição para um aprendizado personalizado e a capacidade desta tecnologia oferecer respostas imediatas às perguntas dos alunos. Além disso, esses assistentes estão disponíveis 24h por dia durante 7 dias por semana, oferecendo auxílio e recursos a qualquer momento, de maneira flexível e acompanhando o processo de aprendizagem dos discentes. Sendo assim, este artigo, a partir de uma revisão sistemática da literatura, busca melhor evidenciar as possibilidades de conexão entre os assistentes virtuais nos AVAs, de forma a analisar os apontamentos e oportunidades proporcionadas por esta junção. Constatou-se que parte das pesquisas buscaram apresentar o desenvolvimento e a implantação de assistentes virtuais em plataformas de ensino e aprendizagem, bem como houve trabalhos que exploraram essa temática tentando evidenciar a presença, utilidade e possibilidades futuras dos assistentes nos AVAs. Assim, alguns dos resultados apontam para os benefícios que os assistentes virtuais agregam ao sistema de ensino ao atenderem prontamente às demandas dos estudantes. No entanto, tal área ainda carece de investigações e aprimoramento, de modo que as tecnologias possam cada vez mais trazer soluções eficazes para os ambientes que estão inseridas.     Palavras-chave: Assistentes virtuais.
