Hybrid Extension Course in Agroecology: Citizen Inclusion of Rural Youth in Maranhão Territories through Distance Education

This paper presents the conception, purpose, operation, and methodology of the hybrid course in Agroecology promoted by the Extension and Development Center of the State University of Maranhão. The course aims to prepare rural young people from four Maranhão rural territories to develop productive activities from an agro-ecological perspective in their communities to guarantee the food security of their families and maintain the environmental sustainability in their areas. The methodology includes video lessons, study time in the community, and practices taught by technicians of the Extension Center. Even with all difficulties imposed by lack of infrastructure and support from the counties and town hall, the course already shows results. The results are related to the process of understanding the importance of using the agroecology model in production and the implementation of systems that can generate food and income to the families of the participants in the project.   Keywords: Distance Education.
