EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF MONKEYPOX CASES IN THE STATE OF GOIÁS

Resumo: Monkeypox, caused by an Orthopoxvirus, is a viral zoonosis characterized by a self-limiting clinical picture with papulovesicular skin eruptions, preceded by fever and lymphadenopathy. Thus, this study aims to present the epidemiological profile of individuals diagnosed with Monkeypox in the State of Goiás. A cross-sectional, descriptive, and ecological study was conducted, with a quantitative analysis of the notification data of positive cases provided by the State Health Department of Goiás. A total of 10,951 cases of Monkeypox were reported in Goiás during the analyzed period. The patient profile shows that 96.1% are male, mainly affecting young adults, with a median age of 31 years for both sexes. The city of Goiânia has the highest number of cases, accounting for 70.49%. The results showed a spread of the disease in the State of Goiás, with a predominance in young adult men and a concentration of cases in the state capital.

Así, este estudio tiene como objetivo presentar el perfil epidemiológico de los individuos diagnosticados con Monkeypox en el Estado de Goiás. Se realizó un estudio transversal, descriptivo y ecológico, con análisis cuantitativo de los datos de notificación de casos positivos proporcionados por la Secretaría Estatal de Salud de Goiás. Se notificaron un total de 10.951 casos de Monkeypox en Goiás durante el período analizado. El perfil de los pacientes muestra que el 96,1% son hombres, afectando principalmente a adultos jóvenes, con una edad mediana de 31 años para ambos sexos. La ciudad de Goiânia concentra el mayor número de casos, representando el 70,49%. Los resultados evidenciaron una diseminación de la enfermedad en el Estado de Goiás, con predominio en hombres adultos jóvenes y concentración de casos en la capital del Estado.O Monkeypox, identificado pela primeira vez na Europa em 2022, é uma zoonose de grande importância mundial. No Brasil, o primeiro caso foi registrado no Rio Grande do Sul. Trata-se de um estudo de caráter transversal, descritivo e ecológico, com ênfase na análise quantitativa. Utilizando-se de banco de dados secundários, observou-se que, no período analisado, uma prevalência de casos em Goiânia, principalmente em homens jovens, não tendo registros de óbitos.
