Resumo: Current research evaluates blood level of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in males in Corbélia PR Brazil, and takes into consideration individual characteristics and prevention measures with regard to prostate cancer. Representative sample, calculated by √n+1, randomly comprised 52 males to whom total PSA dose was applied. A second sample comprised 347 patients, the total of all PSA tests performed between January and September 2013 by the same laboratory. Only one case in the first sample revealed PSA alteration (PSA > 4 ng/mL). Questionnaire showed that approximately 70% of the patients had never been toque-tested and 13.3% had prostate cancer in the family, making the situation more serious. The second population under analysis revealed significant alterations in PSA rates in 7% of patients. Statistically positive co-relationship (p

Statistically positive co-relationship (pO presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o nível sérico do antígeno prostático específico (PSA) em homens da cidade de Corbélia-PR, considerando as características individuais e medidas preventivas em relação ao câncer de próstata. A amostra representativa foi calculada a partir da fórmula √n+1, sendo assim, constituída aleatoriamente por 52 homens, dos quais foram realizadas as dosagens do PSA total. Utilizou-se uma segunda amostra composta por 347 pacientes, totalizando o número de determinações do PSA realizadas entre janeiro de 2012 a setembro de 2013 pelo mesmo laboratório na cidade. Em relação à primeira amostra, apenas um caso apresentou alteração (PSA > 4 ng/mL). Através da aplicação de questionários, avaliou-se que cerca de 70% dos pacientes nunca realizaram o exame do toque, e 13,3% possuem casos de câncer de próstata na família, o que agrava a situação. Na segunda população estudada, observou-se alteração significativa nos valores de PSA em 7% dos pacientes. Quando avaliada a idade e os níveis do antígeno, obteve-se correlação positiva estatisticamente (p < 0,001).
