Resumo: Open spaces, such as public squares, are used by the population for recreation. However, cats and dogs may infect soil with parasites and thus constitute an environmental contamination source for humans. Current research evaluates the environmental contamination of public squares by parasite that may potentially cause zoonosis in Apucarana PR Brazil. Methods by Hoffmann, Faust and Baermann were employed. A high prevalence of the protozoon Entamoeba coli (73.5%) and helminth Ancylostoma sp (12.2%) was found at a 5 cm depth in the soil. Results report the contamination of these recreational places since they present risks for the population through the acquisition of pathogenic protozoa and helminths.

Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar a contaminação ambiental de praças quanto à presença de parasitas potenciais causadores e zoonoses da cidade da Apucarana-PR; foram utilizados os métodos de: Hoffmann, Faust e Baermann. Obteve-se maior prevalência do protozoário Entamoeba coli (73,5%) e do helminto Ancylostoma sp (12,2%), encontrados a 5 cm de profundidade do solo.
