Does relationship with trainers affect motivation of futsal athletes?

Resumo: | Motivation and trainer-athlete relationship in female futsal athletes in the state of Paraná, Brazil, are analyzed. Forty-two athletes, average age 22.1 years old (± 3.6 years), enrolled in the Campeonato Paranaense de Futsal Feminino Adulto 2017 participated. Tools comprised Motivation Scale for Sports and Questionnaire on Trainer-Athlete Relationships. Analyses included Friedman´s test, Mann Whitney U Test and Spearman´s Correlation Coefficient (p < 0.05). Results showed high scores for intrinsic (Md = 6.7), integrated (Md = 6.7) and identified (Md = 6.3) motivation and in the trainer-athlete relationship for the dimensions closeness (Md = 6.7) and complementarity (Md = 6.5). Significant co- and positive relationships were identified between the dimensions identified and closeness motivation, commitment and complementarity (p < 0.05), whilst intrinsic motivation was co-related with closeness. Female futsal athletes in the state of Paraná are intrinsically motivated for sports practicing, and they perceive the relationship with the trainer based on trust, respect and friendly behavior. |

Participaram 42 atletas, com média de idade de 22,1 anos (± 3,6 anos), inscritas no Campeonato Paranaense de Futsal Feminino Adulto 2017. Os instrumentos foram a Escala de Motivação para o Esporte e o Questionário de Relacionamento Treinador-atleta. As análises foram realizadas pelos testes de Friedman, U de Mann Whitney e Coeficiente de Correlação de Spearman (p < 0,05). Os resultados revelaram valores elevados para a motivação intrínseca (Md = 6,7), integrada (Md = 6,7) e identificada (Md = 6,3) e no relacionamento treinador-atleta para as dimensões proximidade (Md = 6,7) e complementaridade (Md = 6,5). Foram identificadas correlações significantes e positivas entre a dimensão motivação identificada e as dimensões proximidade, comprometimento e complementaridade (p < 0,05); a motivação intrínseca correlacionou-se com a dimensão proximidade.
