Resumo: The influence of children’s obesity on lung capacity and on respiratory muscle strength is provided. One hundred and sixty-two children, 85 males and 77 females, aged between 8 and 11 years old, from two government schools in Maringá PR Brazil, were evaluated. Evaluation card, spirometer and manometer were used for data collection. Results show that 63.46% of obese children had normal lung capacity, whereas non-obese children with normal functional capacity were 57.27% of the sample. Maximum inspiration pressure with normal values in obese children reached 71.15%, whereas in non-obese children it amounted to 63.46%. Normal rates of maximum expiration pressure in obese children reached 63.46% whereas in non-obese children it was normal in 58.18%. Since statistical analysis failed to demonstrate any correlation between lung function parameters and anthropometric measures, moderate children obesity doesn’t interfere in aerate functional capacity and in breathing muscular capacity.

Since statistical analysis failed to demonstrate any correlation between lung function parameters and anthropometric measures, moderate children obesity doesn’t interfere in aerate functional capacity and in breathing muscular capacity.
