Cytotoxic of Carbamide Peroxide in the Root of Meristematic Cells Allium cepa L. - Cytotoxic Potential of Chemicals

Resumo: In the drug research field it is important to assess the potential genotoxic and/or carcinogenic chemical substances. Such assessments are needed to increase the population security that use these compounds. This study aimed to make a cytogenetic assessment of dental bleach carbamide peroxide in the roots of Allium cepa meristematic cells, analyzing it in three concentrations: [1]: 10%, [2]: 20% and [3]: 35% (group-treatment-TR). For this assessment it was established three groups: CO (0h), TR (24h) and RE (24h). It was examined 5.000 cells per group to calculate the average mitotic index of each group, and statistical analysis was performed by Chi-square. From the results, it was found that the tested concentrations of carbamide peroxide caused no statistically significant cytotoxic activity or chromosomal changes in the test system used.

Essas avaliações são necessárias para aumentar a segurança da população que faz uso desses compostos. Este trabalho teve por objetivo fazer uma avaliação citogenética do clareador dental peróxido de carbamida, em células meristemáticas de raiz de Allium cepa, analisando-o em três concentrações: [1]: 10%, [2]: 20% e [3]: 35% (grupo-tratamento- TR). Para esta avaliação foram estabelecidos três grupos: CO (0h), TR (24h) e RE (24h). Foram analisadas 5.000 células por grupo para o cálculo do índice mitótico médio de cada grupo, e a análise estatística foi feita pelo teste do Qui-quadrado.
