During this research, a complete anamnesis and a general physical examination was carried out in 30 prisoners from a state prison in Maringá, PR, Brazil (Penitenciária Estadual de Maringá - PEM). They were involved in various occupational therapy sectors, which are characterized as the occupation of time in the development of professional activities. Since the occupational therapy is an extended incentive to the prisoner in several aspects, it is highly encouraged by PEM authorities. However, as the majority of the penitentiary do not have all the necessary substructure to the perfect corporal functioning, it can lead to unbalance. The aim of this research was to check if the work activities developed by the prisoners could be involved in their physical complaints. Interviews to collect personal data, a complete anamnesis as well as a general physical examination were carried out with their consent and preservation of all personal identity. The results were very enriching, revealing complaints mainly about the osseous, joints and muscular systems. This way, further studies should more specifically focus the postural and ergonomic aspects involved in occupational therapy.
