Resumo: The use of medicinal herbs is a tradition maintained till the present. Copiaba oil from the Brazilian native tree Copaifera sp. has numerous applications of relevant medical importance. The oil is used for several anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-tumor, anti-nociceptive purposes, coupled to activities on the gastric mucus and the kidney and liver functions. Current analysis is a bibliographical review on copaiba oil with regard to its medicinal and toxicological properties.

O óleo de copaíba, extraído de uma árvore nativa do Brasil, a Copaifera sp., apresenta múltiplas aplicações de grande interesse medicinal. O óleo é utilizado para diversas indicações, como exemplo, anti-inflamatória, antimicrobiana, antitumoral, antinociceptivo, atividade sobre a mucosa gástrica, função renal e hepática.
