INFLUENCE OF THE PRE-BIOTIC MOS ON THE EFFECTS OF DIET CONTAMINATED WITH FUMONISIN MYCOTOXIN B1 ON WISTAR RATS´ KIDNEYS

Resumo: | Mannan oligosaccharides (MOS) are pre-biotics that attack the effects of mycotoxins. Fumonisin B1 (FB1) are mycotoxins in cereals and the intake of FB1-contaminated cereals is associated with kidney damage such as inflammation and apoptosis. Current research investigates the influence of MOS on the effect of FB1 in the kidneys of Wistar rats. The animals were divided into four groups: F0M0 (n=8); F0M0,2 (n=8); F6M0 (n=8) and F6M0,2 (n=6). Diet was given for 42 days, after which the animals were placed in metabolic cages for the collection of urine. Blood was also collected and kidneys were fixed and stained with Masson´s trichromium. FB1 with or without MOS did not affect ration intake, body weight and animal growth. Normality in plasmatic creatinine level suggests that mycotoxin did not trigger glomerular lesion. Water intake, osmolarity and urine excretion of sodium were not changed. However, there was a significant increase in urinary volume and in the urinary excretion of potassium, foci with fibrosis and small intensity inflammatory infiltrate in the tubulointerstitial region of the external cortex of animals with mycotoxin. |

Fumonisinas B1 (FB1) são micotoxinas presentes em cereais. A ingestão de cereais contaminados com FB1 foi associada a danos renais, como inflamação e apoptose. Considerando esse contexto, este trabalho teve como objetivo estudar a influência do MOS sobre o efeito da FB1 nos rins de ratos Wistar. Os animais foram divididos em quatro grupos: F0M0 (n=8); F0M0,2 (n=8); F6M0 (n=8) e F6M0,2 (n=6). A dieta foi administrada por 42 dias. Após esse período, os animais foram colocados em gaiolas metabólicas para coleta da urina. O sangue foi coletado. Os rins foram fixados e corados pelo Tricrômico de Masson. Constatamos que a administração da FB1, com ou sem MOS, não afetou o consumo de ração, o peso corporal e o crescimento dos animais. A normalidade nos níveis da creatinina plasmática sugere que a micotoxina não induziu lesão glomerular. Ingestão hídrica, osmolaridade e excreção urinária de sódio não sofreram alterações.
