Resumo: This article aims to focus on the processes of formation and social historical affirmation of quilombola communities. In time, the study goes through three ambiences in its thematic composition: in the first part, the evolutionary form of organization of human beings in communities or societies is evidenced in general. This historical resumption has its repercussions on the successive formations of traditional communities mentioned in this study; the second part brings the conceptual notion of quilombo from the affirmation / denial of remnant and finally, describes the process of formation and resistance of Africans to colonial slavery that extends to the present day, in scenes of intense and vigorous struggles. The study is anchored in a methodology of qualitative nature and was generated from the compilation of the state of the art on the theme in relief going through different times of scientific production given that the problem addressed intertwines various historical contexts that dialogue, simultaneously, in an overlap of facts and aspects that cannot be seen in isolation. The questions asked for analysis also seek to focus, within the scope of criticism, the logic that comes from the nation-state with regard to the rights of quilombo peoples and the ways of accessing and conserving their symbolic and material goods. The study pointed out that the processes of political and social struggles of quilombola peoples that were still established in Colonial Brazil by the search for identity and ethnic visibility remain latent today, translating into conducts of resistance and alterity.
