Summary: The article focuses on the participation of social movements, as one of the axes of civil society, within the health area in Brazil. These actors were born between the 60's and 90's, with a goal of fighting for policies and programs that guarantee equality and universality of the right to health. Through these struggles, the Federal Constitution of 1988 brings with it the foundation of a policy in health care, which guarantees these aspirations, entitled SUS - Unified Health System, which seeks integrality and universality in its care as a guarantee of the rights of citizenship. Discuss your principles, management and resources. There is a need to (re) evaluate the ways of these movements in the attainment of these consecrated rights.

Estes atores nasceram entre as décadas de 60 a 90, com meta de luta por políticas e programas que garantam a igualdade e a universalidade do direito à saúde. Através destas lutas a Constituição Federal de 1988 traz consigo o alicerce de uma política em atenção à saúde, que garante estes anseios, intitulada de SUS – Sistema Único de Saúde, o qual busca a integralidade e a universalidade em seu atendimento como garantia dos direitos de cidadania. Debate seus princípios, gestão e recursos.
