Resumo: This article aims to analyze the role of social movements in the struggle for women's rights. Initially, the historical origin of the gender term and its concept will be analyzed. Subsequently, the role of social movements for the development of international protection of human rights instruments will be reviewed. Finally, the role of social movements will be analyzed in the fight for women's rights in Brazil. From this study was concluded by the importance of social movements in the fight for women's rights in the Brazilian context in the quest for gender equalit by incorporating the discourse of human rights.

Posteriormente, será analisado o papel dos movimentos sociais para o desenvolvimento de instrumentos de proteção internacional de Direitos Humanos. Ao final, será analisado o papel dos movimentos sociais na luta pelos direitos das mulheres no Brasil.
