Resumo: According to the program set by the Department of History of Colégio Pedro II, the article reports a research accomplished with students of the 8th year of elementary school of Campus Centro based on the following themes: the independence of Portuguese America and Brazil Empire. In the long-term still so dear to the historian's craft, the main goal was to boost the teaching-learning process about such themes on the spot by focusing the bonds linking history, memory and heritage.
