Resumo: | This article intends to address the importance of former President João Goulart for the history teaching through three approaches. The first one refers to the reflection on the abandonment of the figure João Goulart, its roots and consequences. The second one reflects on the crucial points that should be brought to reflection in the classroom regarding basic education, as the myth created around the president, and his ideas for reforms to Brazil. In addition, a third approach discusses current trends in society to bring out the figure of Jango. |

A primeira refere-se à reflexão sobre o abandono da figura João Goulart, suas raízes e consequências. A segunda abordagem reflete sobre os pontos cruciais que deveriam ser trazidos para reflexão em sala de aula no ensino básico, como o mito criado ao redor do presidente, além de suas ideias de reformas para o Brasil. Além disso, uma terceira abordagem discute os atuais movimentos da sociedade para trazer à tona a figura de Jango.
