TRATAMENTO RESTAURADOR ATRAUMÁTICO: PARADIGMAS E PROGRESSOS DA TÉCNICA

Introduction: The atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) emerged with the intention of restoring teeth with caries lesions in places where conventional treatment was not possible. In Brazil, the technique is suggested in the Health Unic System for schoolchildren, in places that are difficult to access and as a treatment option of choice during the Covid-19 pandemic due to its minimally invasive characteristics that do not generate aerosols. Objective: This article aims to explain the advantages of the technique, the indications and the step by step for a correct and effective application of the philosophy. Sources of data: The data source  ethodology was based on public health surveys and articles related to collective oral health that had the atraumaticrestorative treatment as a central theme. Synthesis of data: The search for these studies on the basis of the Ministry of Health, Pubmed, Scielo and BVS Virtual Library was filtered in the period of the last 5 years, in English and Portuguese, using Boolean operators to address the central theme. Conclusion: ART has a wide social reach, with reduced chair time, endodontics, extractions and easy application both in the office and in places without equipment. The advantages extend to the team, the manager and the patient. However, it has limitations regarding the size and retention of the cavity of the carious lesion, quality of the restorative material and, mainly, the low acceptance of the technique by the professional and the community. It has lower cost, reduction of dental materials, applications in different environments, proven quality to restore caries injuries, in addition to its preventive therapy in the paralysis and progression of dental caries. However, the training of professionals is necessary for the technique to be applied with the appropriate materials and in the correct indications to achieve the success.
