Resumo: Este trabalho relata a experiência da institucionalização do setor de Arquivo do Instituto Leônidas e Maria Deane, no Amazonas, que teve por base a implantação de um plano de trabalho com diretrizes e procedimentos ancorados nos princípios arquivísticos, sobretudo na Gestão de Documentos e na legislação do campo, visando a organização, guarda e acesso aos documentos. Apresentamos o resumo do trabalho iniciado por um diagnóstico, demonstrando os passos seguidos para que o setor passasse a compor a estrutura formal dessa unidade da Fiocruz. Assim, está presente neste texto uma análise sobre a situação e as características do acervo, suas condições de guarda, relação com os usuários e produtores de documentos. Além da demonstração dos métodos de trabalho, da indicação das dificuldades e das estratégias implantadas para o alcance da melhoria da preservação do acervo corrente e histórico.

We present the summary of the work initiated by a diagnosis, to demonstrate the procedures so that the sector could begin to compose the structure of this Fiocruz unit. Thus, this text presents an analysis on the status and characteristics of the collection, its conditions of custody, relationship with users and producers of documents. In addition to the demonstration of the methods of work, the explanation of the difficulties and the strategies implemented to achieve the improvement of the preservation of the current and historical holdings.Fundação Oswaldo Cruz.
