Created in December 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights came at a time of tension around the world, aiming to establish what would be the minimum rights for a dignified life for each person, however, situations of injustice, violence, and inequality, which do not dialogue these are still observed. Among so many examples that could be cited is the so-called “Brazilian Holocaust”, which led to the death of thousands of people inside the grounds of the Psychiatric Hospital Center of Barbacena. There, after going through necessities and being subjected to barbaric procedures, the inmates lost their own identities, health, in some cases - where the disorder did not even exist - their sanity, and even today, the marks of these events are clear in the few who experienced them and survived. With the proposal defended by Human Rights to guarantee rights for all and the failures of this objective during what happened in the city of Minas Gerais, the question that becomes crucial is: what were the negative consequences of the Brazilian Holocaust, mainly with regard to the laws and treatments of psychopathologies? Understanding this period, the creation of the UDHR, and the connection between them, is essential to answer this question, and for that, this qualitative research uses a bibliographic review that will also work to try to determine whether there was an omission by the State, punishment, or justice for those involved in all ways in the event in question.
