Resumo: | The public transport in Curitiba is considered a model for Brazil. With an operating fleet of 1,930 vehicles, 29 of them currently use biofuels (B-100). The aim of the work is the comparative study of NOx emission by vehicles of public transport in Curitiba diesel and biodiesel vehicles considering similar powertrain and various ages with use of diesel S-10 (B-5) and B-100 biodiesel. The methodology applied in this work was developed in two phases. Initially the measurement of NO, NO2 and NOx in the exhaust of vehicles of public transport in Curitiba powered by biodiesel and diesel was taken. Later it was performed the analysis and comparison of the emission of NO, NO2 and NOx according to the conditions of the vehicle fleet. Models that feature Volvo engine (B7R, B10M, B12M and B215RH) and use diesel fuel (S10 / B5) or biodiesel (B100) were chosen. The gas collection was taken directly to the output of the exhaust pipe of the vehicle at rest. There was an increase of 37,14 % in the emission of NO with the use of biodiesel, with the main contributor to the increase in NOx emissions NOx emissions from the combustion of biodiesel were approximately 26% greater than the resulting emissions the use of diesel fuel. Exhaust emissions (NOx) measures for B12M engines with up to 3 years of use, on average, 40 % lower than in an equivalent engine with 10 years of use. The emission of NOx is too high for vehicles older than seven years of use. It is concluded that biodiesel powered vehicles emit larger amounts of NOx when compared to vehicle and powertrain similar life time. |

Com uma frota operante de 1.930 ônibus, 29 deles atualmente usam biocombustíveis (B-100). Assim, o objetivo do trabalho é o estudo comparativo da emissão de NOx por veículos do transporte coletivo de Curitiba movidos a diesel e biodiesel considerando-se veículos de motorização semelhante e de idades diversas com uso de óleo diesel S-10 (B-5) e biodiesel B-100. A metodologia aplicada na realização deste trabalho foi desenvolvida em duas fases. Inicialmente foi feita a medição de NO, NO2 e NOx no escapamento de veículos do transporte coletivo de Curitiba movidos a biodiesel e diesel. Posteriormente foi executada a análise e comparação da emissão de NO, NO2 e NOx de acordo com as condições da frota de veículos. Foram escolhidos os modelos que apresentam motor Volvo (B7R, B10M, B12M e B215RH) e utilizam combustível óleo diesel (S10 / B5) ou biodiesel (B100). A coleta de gases foi feita diretamente na saída do cano de descarga dos veículos em repouso. Observou-se um aumento de 37,14% na emissão de NO com o uso de biodiesel, sendo o principal contribuinte para o aumento das emissões de NOx. As emissões de NOx provenientes da combustão de biodiesel foram aproximadamente 26% maior que as emissões resultantes da utilização do diesel. As emissões de gases (NOx) medidas para os motores B12M com até três anos de uso foram, em média, 40% menores que em um motor equivalente com dez anos de uso. A emissão de NOx também é elevada para veículos com idade superior a sete anos de uso.
