Resumo: | Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS), whose clinical picture is quite varied. Among the symptoms that patients with MS may develop, depression stands out, which is associated with an importante decline in quality of life. The presence of this symptom is associated with a worse prognosis, emphasizing, therefore, the importance of fighting it in the best possible way. There is much support in the literature of the positive role that non-pharmacological measures play in controlling depression in patients with MS, with a range of options for the patient to choose from. The adoption of drug therapy and non-pharmacological practices appears to be the best path to the best therapeutic response. Objectives: The objective of this scientific article was to carry out a synthesis of studies that deal with non-pharmacological therapeutic strategies against depression in patients with MS. Materials and methods: This scientific article was written in the form of an integrative literature review, which used the databases of the Scientific Eletronic Library Online- Scielo and the United States National Library of Medicine- PubMed as a source of extraction of publications. The keywords used were: "Esclerose múltipla", "Depressão" and "Terapias Complementares", according to the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS). By Medical Subject Heading (MeSH), “Multiple sclerosis”, “Depression” and “Complementary Therapies” were used. Among the inclusion criteria, articles were included between the years 2015 and 2020, published in English or Portuguese, available in full and in the form of meta-analyzes, systematic reviews and randomized clinical trials. Publications that did not involve human beings or that worked with neurological diseases were excluded, with the exception of MS. Conclusion: The survey of data for the construction of the scientific article led to the conclusion that non-pharmacological measures play an important role in the control of depressive episodes in patients with MS. The combination of drug therapy and non-pharmacological practice leads to better responses. |

Dentre os sintomas que os pacientes com EM podem vir a desenvolver, destaca-se a depressão, a qual está associada a declínio importante da qualidade de vida. A presença desse sintoma está associada a pior prognóstico, enfatizando-se, por isso, a importância de combatê-la da melhor forma possível. Há bastante respaldo nas literaturas do papel positivo que as medidas não farmacológicas desempenham no controle da depressão em pacientes com EM, com uma gama de opções para o paciente escolher. A adoção da terapia medicamentosa e das práticas não farmacológicas aparenta-se o melhor caminho para obtenção da melhor resposta terapêutica. Objetivos: O presente artigo científico possuiu como objetivo realizar uma síntese dos estudos que tratem acerca das estratégias terapêuticas não farmacológicas contra a depressão em pacientes portadores de EM. Materiais e métodos: Este artigo científico foi redigido sob a forma de uma revisão integrativa de literatura, que utilizou as bases de dados da Scientific Eletronic Library Online- Scielo e da United States National Library of Medicine- PubMed como fonte de extração das publicações. Os descritores empregados foram: “Esclerose múltipla”, “Depressão” e “Terapias Complementares”, de acordo com os Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (DeCS). Pela Medical Subject Heading (MeSH), foram utilizados “Multiple sclerosis”, “Depression” e “Complementary Therapies”. Entre os critérios de inclusão, entraram artigos entre os anos de 2015 e 2020, publicados na língua inglesa ou portuguesa, disponíveis na íntegra e sob a forma de metanálises, revisões sistemáticas e ensaios clínicos randomizados. Foram excluídas publicações que não envolviam seres humanos ou que trabalhavam com doenças neurológicas, excetuando-se a EM. Resultados e discussão: O levantamento bibliográfico realizado levou a 15 artigos científicos, sendo todos eles ensaios clínicos randomizados, oriundos de periódico estrangeiro e publicados na língua inglesa. Os artigos relataram que as intervenções não farmacológicas, caso da Terapia Cognitiva Comportamental (TCC), atividade física, ioga, Imaginação Guiada (IG), a atenção plena e a dieta, apresentaram efeitos positivos sobre o quadro depressivo na EM. Conclusão: O levantamento dos dados para a construção do artigo científico conduziu à conclusão de que as medidas não farmacológicas exercem papel importante para o controle de episódios depressivos em pacientes com EM. Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS), whose clinical picture is quite varied. Among the symptoms that patients with MS may develop, depression stands out, which is associated with an importante decline in quality of life. The presence of this symptom is associated with a worse prognosis, emphasizing, therefore, the importance of fighting it in the best possible way. There is much support in the literature of the positive role that non-pharmacological measures play in controlling depression in patients with MS, with a range of options for the patient to choose from. The adoption of drug therapy and non-pharmacological practices appears to be the best path to the best therapeutic response. Objectives: The objective of this scientific article was to carry out a synthesis of studies that deal with non-pharmacological therapeutic strategies against depression in patients with MS. Materials and methods: This scientific article was written in the form of an integrative literature review, which used the databases of the Scientific Eletronic Library Online- Scielo and the United States National Library of Medicine- PubMed as a source of extraction of publications. The keywords used were: "Esclerose múltipla", "Depressão" and "Terapias Complementares", according to the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS). By Medical Subject Heading (MeSH), “Multiple sclerosis”, “Depression” and “Complementary Therapies” were used. Among the inclusion criteria, articles were included between the years 2015 and 2020, published in English or Portuguese, available in full and in the form of meta-analyzes, systematic reviews and randomized clinical trials. Publications that did not involve human beings or that worked with neurological diseases were excluded, with the exception of MS. Conclusion: The survey of data for the construction of the scientific article led to the conclusion that non-pharmacological measures play an important role in the control of depressive episodes in patients with MS. The combination of drug therapy and non-pharmacological practice leads to better responses. |
