Chronic kidney disease affects thousands of people, characterized by the partial or total loss of function of the kidneys that produce a hormone called erythropoietin (EPO) that associated with the iron present in the body participate in the process of maturation of red cells, the absence of EPO is the main cause of the diagnosis of anemia of chronic kidney disease, defined as hypoproliferative, normocytic and normochromic. With studies initiated through the extraction of the hormone from the urine of anemic patients, it was possible to develop recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO), a biopharmaceutical that helps in the production of the hormone. In order to understand the development and availability of rhEPO in the Unified Health System, which is carried out through the Specialized Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance, being dispensed to patients who meet the requirements for use, in order to evaluate the results obtained with the treatment and improvement of the patient's clinical condition. According to a survey of studies, it was possible to observe that in adult patients, the use of epoetin alfa associated with adequate levels of iron and ferritin offers long-term improvement in the patient, reducing the need for blood transfusions. In addition, the importance of monitoring the pharmaceutical professional from the acquisition to the use of the drug is presented.
