The humanization of childbirth is a practice that reduces the rates of cesarean sections and maternal mortality, guarantees the greater participation of the parturient in decisions about her health and ensures the well-being of women and babies. A professional performance that respects the physiology aspects of labor and delivery itself is the best strategy to be adopted, thus guaranteeing citizenship rights. With this in mind, the present study has the general objective of describing the performance of nursing in the obstetric center, based on humanized care. And as specific objectives, the description of the nursing actions performed in the obstetric center and analysis of the factors that hinder humanized care. This is an integrative literature review study, which seeks to analyze scientific studies about the perception of nursing about humanized care. As inclusion criteria, articles published in the years 2008 to 2018. The articles were consulted at the Virtual Health Library (VHL). After the selection and inclusion and exclusion criteria, a sample of 10 literature was obtained. This research showed the role of nursing in the promotion of humanized childbirth, however it is still necessary to overcome some challenges, such as the dimensioning of personnel and work overload.
