A importância da odontologia nos cuidados paliativos de pacientes oncológicos em fase terminalManifestações bucaisCuidados paliativos na terminalidade da vidaAssistência odontológicaQualidade de vida4.02.00.00-0 OdontologiaFor many years the terminal cancer patient was treated without dignity due to his irreversible condition, when there is no possibility of cure, the individual suffered due to the cancer treatment that causes several painful oral manifestations and pathologies with the side effect and there was no palliative care so that the patient could receive treatment and consequently have quality of life and comfort at the end of life, as the need for it was not understood since the patient would die at any time. This literature review aims to understand, through the search for quantitative and qualitative studies, the need for the dental surgeon in the multidisciplinary palliative care team, reviewing the condition of the terminal patient, the severity and the consequence of the oral manifestations generated due to anti-inflammatory treatment. neoplastic, as well as the main manifestations that may arise, signs and symptoms, why to treat and the forms. The dental surgeon can intervene in maintaining oral health, pain control and treatment to reduce or cure the effects, reviewing treatment protocols and the effectiveness of the interventions performed. It was possible to observe the importance of the performance of the dental surgeon in the team, how much it is possible to make the end of life of these patients more dignified, as those who received treatment and intervention by the dentist had absence or decreased symptoms, enabling communication by speech with the family and close people; food pleasure, consequently comfort and quality of life in the patient's last moments.
