Resumo: | Streptococcus Agalactiae is a bacterium present in the natural microbiota of both the urinary tract and gastrointestinal tract that can cause problems in pregnant women from the third trimester and its transmission to newborns during delivery. This paper aims to present the protocol and methods for preventing infection of pregnant women and newborns by Streptococcus Agalactiae in two study environments, a reference hospital and maternity hospital in São Paulo and evaluate their results, based on the study of research April 1991 to March 2000 (period prior to the implementation of the protocol) and April 2000 to December 2008 (period after the implementation of the protocol). The results obtained comparing before and after the implementation of the protocol show an improvement of 84.6% due to the decrease in the lethality rate from 60% to 11% and the number of infected newborns. Based on the studies of the Laboratory of Diagnostic Medicine (Microbiology sector) located in Campinas-SP, during the second semester of 2015 (4.96%) to the first semester of 2016 (8.08%), protocol implementation period, demonstrating an identified colonization frequency of 13.05% in this study. |
