Resumo: | The present study investigated how research, development and implementation of eco-innovations are conducted by a cosmetic company through the lens of the Evolutionary Theory of Innovation. It was observed that some academic areas are interested in this theme, but there was a gap in the literature within the management field. The research method was an in-depth case study with content analysis supported by the ATLAS.ti software. The unit of analysis was a cosmetics company from Curitiba, Paraná state, Brazil, recognized nationwide for its eco-innovative measures. The results demonstrate that, in eco-innovative products, the company meets the requirements of material decomposition, use of natural materials (green chemistry), waste reduction, simplification of construction, simplification of packaging and bioinspiration for design. In eco-innovative processes, requirements are met for preventing contamination, complying with legislation, reducing the use of materials, recycling and reuse. The company conducts green research and development from the stages of ideation, research, prototyping, tests and certification and product registration, and solves its challenges by biomimetizing plant protection characteristics, human skin texture and clay protection for the creation of ecoinnovative products. The main barriers identified for the implementation process are market, raw material, governmental and internal factors, while the main facilitators are technological innovation, communication, legislation, environmental management and the market. The study suggests that Green R&D differs from the traditional one mainly by the adoption of ecodesign in all stages and by the repetition of stages until sustainable requirements are reached. Although biomimicry is used by the company to support the development of eco-innovations, it was observed that its development occurs unsystematically, which possibly limits the potential for replicating the experience of nature. It is possible to affirm that the barriers and facilitators of the implementation of eco-innovations are dynamic as, in a given situation, a barrier may behave as a facilitator and vice-versa. It is suggested that future studies could investigate policies to support eco-innovations, processes for adoption of a systematic biomimetics on R&D, and the relationship between the adoption of Green R&D and the fulfillment of technological eco-innovation requirements in the cosmetics sector. |

Universidade PositivoBrasilPós-GraduaçãoPrograma de Pós-Graduação em AdministraçãoUPTumelero, Cleonirhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/4709665580514679Dugonski, Franciany Cristiny Venâncio2021-04-27T22:24:31Z20202021-04-27T22:24:31Z2020info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisapplication/pdfhttps://repositorio.cruzeirodosul.edu.br/handle/123456789/1968porinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório do Centro Universitário Braz Cubasinstname:Centro Universitário Braz Cubas (CUB)instacron:CUB2021-06-21T11:51:11Zoai:repositorio.cruzeirodosul.edu.br:123456789/1968Repositório InstitucionalPUBhttps://repositorio.brazcubas.edu.br/oai/requestbibli@brazcubas.edu.bropendoar:2021-06-21T11:51:11Repositório do Centro Universitário Braz Cubas - Centro Universitário Braz Cubas (CUB)false |
