Percepção da sociedade acerca da influência do cinema sobre a psiquiatria

Being one of the most powerful forms of mass communication and having easy access, the cinema has an enormous influence on society. This influence has an even more significant importance when it comes to the theme of mental illnesses, as there is a lack of knowledge of a portion of society about these illnesses and patients. The film industry has always shown great interest in medicine in general, and in this scenario, psychiatry has always achieved a prominent place. Therefore, a large audience starts to form opinions about psychiatry, patients and treatments based on what they see in films. The study aimed to identify what is the perception that the population has about psychiatry and how much it was shaped or defined through the cinema. The research is an observational and cross-sectional, descriptive field study, having a quantitative and non-experimental character. The study participants answered an electronic questionnaire on the Google Forms platform, consisting of a series of questions to assess the proposed theme, respecting the ethical aspects of Resolution nº. 466 of December 12, 2012. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software was used for statistical analysis with a 95% confidence level and a 5% margin of error. Considering an infinite or unknown population, the sample was composed of 300 volunteers, who made themselves available, met all the inclusion criteria and agreed to the Free and Informed Consent Term (TCLE) during the period from april to may 2021 and the sampling was non-probabilistic for convenience. Data collection and analysis started after approval by the Ethics Committee. CAAE: 45473821.3.0000.5176. The study sample consisted of 63.7% (n = 191) of female and 37.3% (n = 109) of male. As for the age group, 72.3% (n = 217) were in the 18 to 31 age group, 17.3% (n = 52) in the 32 to 46 age group and 10.4% (n = 31) in the age group. 47 to 60 years old. We conclude that it is extremely important that the cinema can be used as a way to change the stereotype of the psychiatric patient, bringing more realistic information and knowledge to those who accompany him.
